Starting the Fall ‘09 Blog

Hello, I thought since Title IX and tri training is officially over for ‘09 and we are on to other fun activities like hiking, pot luck, and Mojitos….that I’d start a new blog.  Let me first say—great season guys, and what fun we had!! Here’s to many more.  Now for the fall fun….

Re: the hike.  Unless others have a better idea, let’s plan to meet at the Marlboro Trail at 10am on Sunday.  You can meet us there, or if you want to carpool, you can meet at my house and we can arrange cars from here.  It’s about an hour and half from my house so we’ll be leaving at 8:15 for those that want to meet here.  Let me know what your definite plans are by Saturday so we know who to expect. Don’t forget to bring water, comfy shoes, layers of clothes, sunscreen, etc… It’s about a 2 hour hike up and 1 hour down and last time I did this it was very cold up top, but warm going up.   http://www.qcc.mass.edu/brink/Trav-rec/mt_monad/marlborotr.html

As for the potluck.  Bring your favorite healthy dish and we’ll go over the nutritional features of it and discuss when best to eat something like it.  If you could bring the recipe I can make a copy for whoever wants it.  There will be lots of food, and lots to take home so bring something to take some stuff home with you–remember, I have no one left in the house to help me eat everything, you CAN NOT leave me with a ton of food!  It should be a lot of fun.  I’m going to cook some things while we are all here so we can discuss them too.  Fine if you want to cook or heat up what you bring.  Let’s meet at 6pm at my house on FRIDAY the 9th.  I guess I had the wrong date listed, but I was planning on Friday.

That’s all I have for now except–I am sooooooooooooooo glad I didn’t race today- what a yucky day!!  Heather I hope you feel better.

I’ll be there on Sunday, hubby is coming also! Let’s pray for good weather!

2 Diane { 09.29.09 at 10:31 am }

Great Heather! Looking like rain though :-( We’ll keep tabs on it.

3 Doug { 09.29.09 at 1:24 pm }

Well, I am not planning on hiking in the rain, but what is the deal with the potluck? I hadn’t heard details on that.

I have some great very fatning foods that are perfect for gaining wait over the holidays, and I am glad to share those recipies ;-)

4 Diane { 09.29.09 at 1:31 pm }

I’m not going to hike in the rain either, no need to. Hopefully the weather people will be wrong–not that THAT has ever happened :-)

The potluck idea came out of the Title IX group and the need for everyone to get some ideas on how to create some good, nutritional, fast dishes. You are certainly welcome to come, but right now it’s all women. Not that you’d mind :-)

5 Diane { 09.29.09 at 3:03 pm }

Hey, it looks like REI is holding a CHI Running information clinic on 10/20 at their Framingham store. I don’t think you will actually run, but I’ll go and find out more about the methodology. You guys can come too :-)

6 Doug { 09.29.09 at 3:29 pm }

I am signed up! See you there!

7 Dot { 09.30.09 at 9:06 pm }

Hi Everyone,
Who is running in the Tufts 10K? I would love to run with anyone training for the race and hopefully car pooling the day of?

8 Christine { 10.01.09 at 7:42 pm }

OK, I’m catching up…so where is everyone? I’ll be at your house to carpool Sunday morning for the hike…rain or shine…you taught me well Diane. However, I am a wimp as it is getting colder…after last winter I think I am part bear. I’ll be drinking wine in Napa though on the 20th but please get me info!

9 Diane { 10.01.09 at 7:58 pm }

Christine, I soooo appreciate your enthusiasm. However, since it is the off season and people have 1/2 marathons and 10k races the following weekend, we will not be hiking in the rain. I, for one, won’t be chancing slipping on the rocks. This is a rocky trail, so it won’t be safe if it has rained all day and night the day before. Sorry, but it isn’t looking great for this weekend. I’ll make the final call on Friday.

I will get you info on Chi Running

10 Diane { 10.02.09 at 6:05 am }

The weather looks like it is clearing for Sunday. Some forecasts are saying rain early on Sun–some are saying mostly cloudy, no rain–sooooo what do we do? I say, we plan to go and assume no rain. However IF it is still raining (even early on Sun morning) we should reschedule. As posted previously, if the rocks are slippery, it would not be fun or safe to try to climb to the top. I’ll post whether I plan to go early Sunday morning, but right now, I’m hopeful and will plan to go!

11 Diane { 10.02.09 at 6:09 am }

Christine { 10.01.09 at 7:54 pm }

This is weird…I ended up on a page w/ a few comments including Doug and one from Dot, but it’s not in this string…thus my “where is everyone?” I hope to find this string again and will repeat, and add, in case other comments went into oblivion.

I’ll be at your house Diane to carpool Sunday…any men going? Brian would be interested…and you can see him dress up like an Eskimo by the top.
I’ll bring a tofu veggie stir fry to the pot luck to add some protein.
Heather, I think I will be joining you in flip turn class. As I swam in the pool with about 100 kids whipping flip turns in every lane next to me, I was thinking back to my disaster summer on the swim team in 7th grade and how happy I am I don’t have to do those…guess you can see I haven’t attended a masters class yet.
I’m sorry to miss the 20th, but I’ll be drinking wine in Napa. I will toast you all (or bring back wine) if you share some insight.
________________

Above is Christine’s comments from the other “Fall Blog”–don’t ask. Anywhooooo, to answer your question Christine, YES lots of other men and spouses planning to hike on Sunday. So Brian is welcome and encouraged (we need to see his eskimo look).

12 melissa { 10.02.09 at 11:43 am }

Hi Everyone – I am planning on going directly to Mt. Mon. from home on Sunday if anyone needs a ride from the Rt495/Rt2 West area.
Diane – signed up for Chi Running at REI – maybe I can improve on my feeble attempts to learn Tai Chi also!

13 Heather { 10.02.09 at 12:35 pm }

I’m heading straight to Mt. Monadnock on Sunday, Lenore is driving with us. I plan on getting there before 10am.

14 Diane { 10.02.09 at 1:21 pm }

Sounds good Heather and Melissa. I think we need to make a rule that we are leaving to start hiking at 10:15 if you are not there, and are on your way, please call or text my cell (or someone else’s number you know) otherwise we will assume you won’t be there. If I don’t go, I’ll call someone I know who will be there. I am only going if it hasn’t rained over night into the morning.

15 jim bruce { 10.03.09 at 12:17 pm }

Is the hike on or off? I’ll go if its’ not raining, i’ve hike many times before in the rain and its not fun. Chris if you go to St Lukes tomorrow I;ll bring your things.

16 Diane { 10.03.09 at 12:37 pm }

I think the hike is on. It’s supposed to stop raining around 3am. I figure we’ll hike up as far as we can safely and then turn around if it isn’t safe. Cary and I will be leaving our house at 8am.

17 Marie { 10.03.09 at 6:47 pm }

Hey guys
Have fun hiking- hope the weather holds out. I am going to pass, not only because I am a wimp, but mostly because I have some stuff I really have to attend here at home.
See you for the pot luck.

18 Heather { 10.03.09 at 9:21 pm }

Hubby and I decided to not go hiking tomorrow due to the weather. If you all do go, have a great time!

19 melissa { 10.04.09 at 5:56 am }

I’m going to pass on the hike today – hope you guys have fun.

20 Diane { 10.04.09 at 6:11 am }

Cary and I and Christine and Brian are still going. At this point I’m not sure who else is still going but if you are we’ll see you there.

21 Diane { 10.04.09 at 6:50 am }

OK, so no Christine or Brian. Looks like just Cary and I. Oh well, we will have fun anyway! See you guys Friday

22 Diane { 10.04.09 at 5:33 pm }

Sorry you guys didn’t make it today, it was an absolutely perfect day. Warm enough for a tank top going up and a light shirt and vest coming down and at the top. Yes, it was a tad slippery, but we just went down slowly. We actually descended in the same amount of time it took us to ascend! I guess that’s the definition of being old–when the knees hurt so you have to go slow coming DOWN! Pics are up on Facebook.

23 Angela { 10.05.09 at 5:56 am }

Wow girl…..you are amazing! Thats all Ican say is you are amazing!

24 Annmarie { 10.05.09 at 7:46 am }

Sounds like so much fun. Sorry I couldn’t make it. Spennt the day in Boston. Went to dinner & the ballet. The dancers are amazing. Can’t make it Friday night. Headed to NYC. Will you be posting all of your great recipes? Have fun.

25 Mary { 10.05.09 at 8:48 am }

How many copies of recipes should we bring? Diane can you send me you address off line?

26 Diane { 10.05.09 at 9:03 am }

Bummer AnnMarie, but what fun for you!

Mary, I’d say bring 20 copies. I have a printer that’ll make copies too so if we need more. I’m expecting 12-15 but in case there are more, let’s say 20. Just sent you an email with my address.

27 Jim Bruce { 10.05.09 at 1:54 pm }

Hey Doug, maybe you and I can get together and share our recipes? I have a great chili recipe that I have made for several chili cookoffs. That and some cornbread, yummy!!!!

28 Diane { 10.05.09 at 2:03 pm }

But is it healthy, Jim? That’s what we’re going for here. Yummy-healthy-easy to make recipes :-) Why don’t you guys just come. If you both come then neither of you will feel weird with all of us gals.

29 Doug { 10.05.09 at 2:13 pm }

But isn’t the point of “Fall” to build up that layer of fat so I can hibernate? jim’s Chili & cornbread sounds good to me. Add some ribs, wings and beer and it is a party!

30 Diane { 10.05.09 at 2:16 pm }

Now see, this is exactly why the bratty boys weren’t invited! If you can behave yourselves (except the beer is OK–we’re drinking Mojitos) you may come.

31 Mary { 10.05.09 at 2:28 pm }

I was hope to get into my wetsuit next summer a little bit easier.

32 Jim Bruce { 10.05.09 at 2:44 pm }

Now you’re talking Doug. Sam Adams Boston Larger, wings, chili yea ha…… It’s all healthy Diane! I think Cary needs to be in on this or is he away?

33 Diane { 10.05.09 at 2:46 pm }

He will be back Friday night late, so if you’re here long enough…. he can join you guys. That’s his type of “healthy too”

34 Mert { 10.05.09 at 5:03 pm }

Raspberry Mojitos update.  My family gave me thumbs up so my stress is over & I’m ready for Friday night.  I must say it was another adventure trying to get all the ingredients for the mojitos :-)

35 Barbara { 10.05.09 at 6:13 pm }

Hi Everyone,
Okay, sorry to burst your beer, chili, ribs and wings bubble guys (Doug and Jim) but the fall or off season is a good time to get leaner heading into another season, not to fatten up – sorry. As many of you know it is difficult to lose weight while training. The training increases your metabolism therefore your appetite. Also, we don’t want you cutting calories too far during training, that can leave your body depleted of fuel and when that happens the body breaks down muscle for fuel, so we end up working against everything we are trying to improve – power, endurance, speed. So Doug sorry hibernating! Enjoy the off season, don’t abuse it :)

36 Barbara { 10.05.09 at 6:14 pm }

O0ps! Should say – Doug sorry NO hibernating!

37 Diane { 10.05.09 at 6:37 pm }

Well said Barbara!

Mert, I’m impressed! Can’t wait to taste them.

38 Barbara { 10.06.09 at 2:02 pm }

Hi Everyone,
Well, first I just want to say I hope the “boys” still come to the potluck, I think they will be pleasantly surprised at how good “healthy” food can taste! I know they are just giving their coach a hard time about their nutrition and trying to pull other “trianees” to the dark side :) I hope to see you guys at Diane’s Friday.
Secondly, I love this weather, could we keep it all year?! Went for a run today, it always seems so much easier in the fall. Now I know part of that is I’ve trained all summer and am fitter than I was in the spring. And it is cooler so my body’s not also working hard to keep me cool. It just feels good to have it seem “easier”. Hope everyone else is having a good day :)

39 Diane { 10.06.09 at 2:05 pm }

I hear you Barbara on both front. Love the cool weather to run in. The boys are back in town……. :-)

40 Christine { 10.06.09 at 2:09 pm }

Unfortunately, i’m stuck inside an office so no treat outside for me. Barbara, I am very interested in your advice for us on “getting leaner” in the winter…i now have stuck in my head what Diane said to eat before/after exercising and i’m afraid it will be too many winter calories. i’m afraid i’m part bear like the guys, but my digestive system is too wimpy to handle all that bear, chili, chips, spicy stuff! Let me know if guys will be there friday or no…Brian is out of town and may not be back in time fri night, but is also still sick, so am trying to avoid germs…

41 Diane { 10.06.09 at 2:18 pm }

Christine, you are correct in stopping eating now before and after any workouts less than one hour, provided you have eaten enough during the day. Otherwise, you will find that you will bonk during your workout even if just for an hour. You’ll have to figure out what is right for you but can start on the lower end and just add a snack if you feel too depleted. Remember, your workouts now should be pretty easy and just to have fun unless you are training to do some running races. If so, then this doesn’t apply :-) We can talk more on Friday. If Brian is sick, he can NOT come ! No sickies…

42 Christine { 10.06.09 at 2:24 pm }

sorry if i wasn’t clear, but i wouldn’t bring him if he was still sick…i’m trying to avoid him now! hopefully, he’ll at least get on juice plus since he won’t join the reliv program!

43 Dot { 10.06.09 at 3:34 pm }

Help! What is our guidelines for the food we are making for the Pot Luck? Most of my favorites may not be “healthy” enough!

44 Diane { 10.07.09 at 8:37 pm }

LOL, just bring what you want and we’ll tell you how healthy it is and make suggestions to making it healthier :-) OR, you could bring a fruit salad, or some apples and I’ll show how to make apple dessert with no added calories :-)

45 Gretchen Tregger { 10.07.09 at 8:47 pm }

I will be there Friday – I’m going to make my fish dish. It’s quick, yummy and healthy – great paired with whole grain rice and some veggies for a meal.

I am doing the Tufts 10k, but I’ll be walking it. Last week I was crossing the road, almost got hit by a car, sprinted across the road and pulled my right calf. I go to the sports massage therapist tomorrow, but I know it won’t be ready for Monday. So, I’m going to walk and take lots of pictures and just enjoy the event.

See you all on Friday…I’ll tell you about my free (VERY FATTENING) dinner from Legal Seafoods, thanks to my tire changing skills.

46 Christine { 10.07.09 at 9:29 pm }

Hi…this is a late invite, but I now have an extra ticket to see the Boston Ballet tomorrow (Thurs) evening at 7 pm performing “Giselle” if anyone would like to join me. It’s at the Opera House on Washington St. I work downtown so would be there already, but if anyone is interested, I could also work out logistics to drive you home if you live west and want to take the train in. Diane has my contact info so feel free to call cell or email.

47 melissa { 10.10.09 at 9:14 am }

Hi everyone – it was great seeing everyone again last night – Diane, thanks for hosting such a healthy event!
Forgot to mention – there is a screening of the new documentary/movie of the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race at Solomon Pond on October 22 – here’s the link for info http://www.ncm.com/Fathom/Sports/RaceAcrossTheSky.aspx – tickets ($12.50) are available online. Maybe it could be our next group (inspirational!) get-together?

48 Diane { 10.10.09 at 7:43 pm }

I soooo wanted to see this, but I have my watercolor class on Thursday nights :-(

49 Diane { 10.11.09 at 2:23 pm }

Have fun at the Tufts 10k guys! Weather should be perfect.

50 Annmarie { 10.11.09 at 8:18 pm }

http://www.coolrunning.com/major/09/slattery/

Sorry I missed healthy cooking night. I was in NYC and did not eat healthy – well I did eat some healthy food and we walked all over Manhattan.

Above is the site for the Fitchburg Turkey Trot on Nov. 22nd. It’s a 5 mile road race. Plan on running the course in the next few weeks if anyone is interested. After we could have brunch at my house or eat at Slattery’s (where the race begins and ends – they have yummy food and drinks :)

51 Diane { 10.11.09 at 9:01 pm }

We missed you AnnMarie! I’m in for the 22nd. Who else is with us? I think Barbara said she was. My husband will probably do it too.

52 Mert { 10.12.09 at 6:24 am }

AnnMarie,

Nice to hear from you, I’m glad you are doing well. We missed you Friday night. I’m also planning to run on the 22nd, so count me in. Also please let me know when you are planning to running the course, I would like to join you.

53 Barbara { 10.12.09 at 7:16 am }

Judy and her husband Brian are also planning on running :) We’d all like to run the course before the race. Brunch after at your house Annmarie or Slattery’s works for me :)
Good luck to the Tuft’s 10K runners today, you will all do great!

54 Diane { 10.12.09 at 4:50 pm }

OK guys I want to hear about Tufts 10k….

I’m in for a practice run on the course too Annmarie.

55 Gretchen Tregger { 10.12.09 at 5:56 pm }

Results are up on Cool Running website. Everyone did excellent! Dot broke the hour mark, Marie did excellent with 9.11 min miles, Mert did awesome for her first 10k, Heather was at 10 min miles…Great job guys. The only one I saw finishing was Marie and she looked fantastic – although a bit shocked to hear someone screaming her name at the finish line. It was great meeting up with you guys before the race. Next year, I’ll be back at it in full force. It was tough not racing today, but great to watch the race. OMG – seeing Molly sprint for the finish down Charles street – I’ll be motivated by that when I can start running again!

Diane – how did the 1/2 marathon go? How did your back hold up? Hope the race went well and I’ll see you on Tuesday.

56 Diane { 10.12.09 at 6:05 pm }

Thanks Gretchen for the update. NICE job guys! You are all getting soooo fast I won’t be able to keep up with you.

1/2 was good. I am definitely feeling it today. Due to my back, I wasn’t able to get in my long runs to prep for this race, so I’m very happy with the outcome. My back is great though! It’s my legs that are sore LOL
See you tomorrow.

57 Dot { 10.12.09 at 6:14 pm }

Gretchen,
I wish I had seen you at the finish! I am proud of myself for finishing under 1 hour, my goal this year, especially when my knee actually gave out at mile 5. I have had problems with it sometimes after tri’s but never in the middle of an event. I was right behind Marie until I had to stop multiple times or fall!!! Oh, well just glad it is over.

58 Mert { 10.12.09 at 6:29 pm }

The day/run was great, I had no idea what my time was going to be because this was my first 10k, I felt good and I’m happy with my time. I never thought I would be running a 10k. The cool thing about it was that they announced my name while I was crossing the finish line. Dot & Marie, it was great being with you guys in the starting line

59 Diane { 10.12.09 at 6:59 pm }

Congrats Mert! I bet you didn’t think you’d be doing a 10k when you started all of this just a short 4+ months ago. LOL Think about that!!!

60 Mert { 10.12.09 at 7:15 pm }

Diane,
You are so right.

61 Barbara { 10.12.09 at 8:05 pm }

Great job you guys! You are all inspirational, I can’t wait to get to run with you all again. :)

62 Marie { 10.12.09 at 9:37 pm }

I can only reiterate what a great day it was for a run. That is such a fun course, I highly recommend it – no hills! Congrats Mert and
Dot. Heather, sorry we didn’t catch up with you. Great reporting Gretchen, and as always, the best supporter ever! Next year, you’ll be out there too.

63 Heather { 10.13.09 at 9:24 am }

Congratulations to everyone who ran yesterday at the Tufts 10K, we all did amazing…and I firmly believe we wouldn’t be the athletes we are today without Diane!!

64 Diane { 10.13.09 at 9:46 am }

awww… thanks Heather, but it’s your dedication and enthusiasm of yourself and each other that make you all the athletes that you are! And of course following the plans made for you! LOL

65 Dot { 10.13.09 at 9:28 pm }

All right even though I am still sore from yesterday (at least my knee has stopped buckling) I wanted to invite anyone that is interested to go to FL the weekend of March5-7 to run in a 1/2 marathon. I have gone down the last two years to run in the 5K and it is a blast. The race starts in one of the theme parks, early in the AM to avoid the heat and has the same feel as the Danskin-Webster tri. Lot’s of spectators, even the employees of Disney come out and cheer. The first year I did this it was sponsored by the American Heart Association and I did it in memory of my sister who died of a heart attack at the age of 44 the year before. She is actually the reason I started doing tri’s. Here is the web site in case anyone would like to see more details; disneyprincesshalfmarathon.com. Gretchen is thinking about coming and my best friend works for Disney and usually get us tickets to the park!

66 Dot { 10.14.09 at 10:55 am }

Gretchen,
Could you give me the training tips for a 1/2 marathon that we talked about Friday night? I remember runs on Mon, Tues, Wed, rest, long run on Saturday??? If I do not start right in next week I will probably not do it!!
Thanks,
Dot

67 Diane { 10.14.09 at 3:56 pm }

Dot, that’s the weekend after I might be in FL for my mother-in-laws 70th b-day, so hmmmm… I’ll have to talk to Cary about staying the whole week. It WOULD be good timing for Boston LOL

Mon-Tempo run medium distance
Wed- fast short run
Sat-long run

Other days cross train. If you want to run an extra day do it easy and middle distance. But, with your knees, I would not recommend it unless you do it on a rail trail. I run max 3 days/week. Build your long run slowly.

68 Diane { 10.15.09 at 8:39 am }

Hi, I am looking into dates for the swim clinic, and Brian and I decided that the best day/time would be a Saturday at 6pm so that we won’t be interfering with other activities already planned. So, we need to pick a Sat that works for you guys. We’ll plan to have an hour swim workout while I am taping each of you. I’m still looking into the cost, but it will be less than $99. For this you would get taped and I would email you with 3 things to work on and the drills to help you work on those skills. You also get an hour swim workout that night :-)

1. Who is interested?
2. What Sat over the next 6 or 7 work for you?

Thanks!
Diane

69 Kate { 10.15.09 at 8:56 am }

oh, this sounds very interesting! also, i still need to sign up for the tri-training program. what is the difference between joining as a fitness member or a swim member? november saturdays look good – might be too crazy for thanksgiving weekend.

70 Diane { 10.15.09 at 9:06 am }

Hi Kate,

The difference between swim member and fitness member is that as a swim member you can swim whenever you want either in addition to, or instead of the 6:30am masters swims that go with the tri program. So, if you want to get in an extra swim or two during the week you would want to be a swim member. Or, if you can’t make the Tues and Fri 6:30am swims during the week, you would want to be a swim member. Otherwise the fitness member is a little less money and it allows you to do all of the fitness classes and use the gym whenever you want but, you can only swim on Tues and Fri with the tri program sessions.

In Nov we could do 11/7 or 14. The 21st wouldn’t be ideal for those of you doing the 5 miler the next day, but is doable too.

71 Christine { 10.15.09 at 11:28 am }

I can do the 7th or 14th, but not the 21st. I’m away that weekend and bummed i can’t do the Turkey Trot with you all…it sounds fun and i think i need something to look toward.

72 melissa { 10.15.09 at 11:49 am }

Diane – I can do 11/14 – prefer not 11/7 – I’m returning very late on 11/6 from the westcoast. Are you also planning on a 9AM masters swim on Tues & Fri in the Jan. tri program?

73 Diane { 10.15.09 at 2:33 pm }

Melissa, yes there will still be a masters swim at 9am. I just know Kate works and can’t do that one. So I guess I should clarify. The masters swim choices are 6:30 or 9am Tuesdays and Fridays. Thanks for the clarification!

74 Mary { 10.15.09 at 2:53 pm }

Diane – are you looking for participants for in the swim to keep to the cost down? In other words is it girls only? Let me know. Stan and I would be interested in being taped. Just have an obligation Oct 24th. Other Sat are good.

75 Dot { 10.15.09 at 6:49 pm }

I am in, any November Saturday would work. Diane, are you home tomorrow? I would like to talk to you about training options because I am confused as to what is available and what would work best for me.

76 melissa { 10.15.09 at 7:05 pm }

Anyone receive the Title Nine clothing line catalog? I’ve been really happy with everything I’ve ordered from them – http://www.titlenine.com. They’re having a major sale in Stoneham through Sunday. I was there today and it really is a great sale (not to be compared with Reflec – that was once in a lifetime!) Lots of high quality brand name workout/outdoor clothing & shoes. Pants/capris are $29-$34 (from $60-$80), long sleeve tops $26 (from $45) lots of jackets & vests, shoes & boots are all $39 — and every day the prices go down until Sunday. Stoneham is a bit out of the way for most – but worth the trip!

77 Diane { 10.16.09 at 6:34 am }

Hi Dot,

Yes, plans have changed and I am here all weekend. Today is fine. I’m going to try to go to Pilates at noon other than that, I am free as a bird :-) Just call me.

78 Diane { 10.16.09 at 7:11 am }

Looks like 11/14 at 6pm is the date for the swim clinic. I have Kate, Melissa, Christine, Stan, Mary, and Dot so far. Anyone else? You’ll get a good workout, so don’t do too many workouts during the day.

79 Jim Bruce { 10.16.09 at 9:05 am }

Count me in!

80 Diane { 10.16.09 at 1:48 pm }

82 Diane { 10.17.09 at 11:39 am }

Thanks Melissa, I hadn’t seen this. Did you catch the “Diane Strokes” LOL

83 Dot { 10.17.09 at 12:20 pm }

I just talked to my friend at Disney (my running partner in the FL 5K’s and 1/2 marathons) and she has room at her house for 4 runners so I thought I would add that. She also is going to walk the 5K which is the day before the 1/2 because this is a media event for her, so if the 1/2 scares you it is going to be a 5K and a 1/2 marathon weekend. Your choice. I will warn you that when she has had to do media detail in the past we had a camera crew following us around Epicot for 3 hours, FYI. It was fun!!

84 Diane { 10.18.09 at 6:18 am }

Hey guys, don’t forget the Chi Running talk is at REI at 7pm on Tuesday the 20th (THIS Tues) if you are interested.

85 Mary { 10.19.09 at 10:03 am }

Wetsuits: what is the best way to store my wetsuit for the winter?

86 Diane { 10.19.09 at 1:38 pm }

I don’t do anything special Mary. Just wash it, let it dry, then put it in the back of your closet :-)

87 Diane { 10.19.09 at 1:40 pm }

Chi Running -interested people, would 11/28 work for you for the clinic, or are you going away for the weekend?

Also, we need to plan our Tri Program kickoff meeting. I’m thinking Dec 5th or 6th for 2 hours. You’ll meet our swim coach and our strength coach too :-) Lots of great changes for this year! Let me know what works for you on either of these days.

88 Christine { 10.19.09 at 1:43 pm }

definitely interested in the chi running and i am available all weekend. However, I have to be away next weekend for family event i’m no allowed to miss, so i hope it’s not that weekend!

89 Diane { 10.19.09 at 1:45 pm }

Christine, I’m not understanding your post. You ARE available on 11/28 for the Chi Running? But not the 5th or 6th for the kickoff meeting?

90 Christine { 10.19.09 at 1:47 pm }

you are correct

91 Mert { 10.19.09 at 2:00 pm }

Diane,
Nov. 28th and Dec. 5th or 6th – works for me.

92 Christine { 10.19.09 at 2:31 pm }

I saw Diane today at WTC today and she is coordinating weight training with Rick, who got me started on a program there when I joined. He is great and I am looking to train in a small group (cheaper and love the moral support). I think he does groups of 3…program would be once a week for 10 weeks for $150 each, so that makes it a $15 per session cost. I am on vacation this week, but would like to start next week if possible…I need nights or Fridays, or would practice being an early morning person…forgot to ask about weekends. Either way, we get the training once a week and then do it on our own as he gives us a plan. Diane is going to plug us in to Rick (similar setup and cost) when we start the Tri program in January, but if anyone wants to start now, then he will create our plan for where we are in January and our new session cost won’t start until this 10 weeks are over. I think i got all that right…but i forgot to ask about people who are not WTC members, but doing the Tri…Diane, do you know? also, I forgot to tell you i am so glad you’re working w/ Rick! I guess it was just meant to be that i got lucky and found all the best people!

Dot…you have me intrigued about FL..have to decide if my knees will hold up and check dates….

93 Mary { 10.19.09 at 2:48 pm }

Dec 5/6 work for me for winter program intro.
Nov 28 will most likely be out of town, but I am not really able to run (still!!!). Need to talk to you Diane to see if the winter program is a possibility or if this glute is going to be a problem.

94 Diane { 10.19.09 at 4:02 pm }

Hi guys,

Yes, this year, Rick and I will be working together to design a weight program for you guys. I will work with Rick on our Run/weight workout that I will run and the plan I put together for all of you during the tri season. He has also agreed to give you a 1x/week (if you want) or 1x/ every 2 weeks session to do one of your weight workouts. If you do it in groups of 3, for $15/ session you get a personal training session with him. We’ll discuss this more at our kick off meeting, but if you want to start the Rick sessions now, let us know and we’ll group you into 3s at the $15/ session rate.

Mary, give me a call when you have a chance, I have an idea.

95 Diane { 10.19.09 at 6:40 pm }

Dot, I think I’m in for the 1/2 in March too :-)

96 Dot { 10.19.09 at 6:58 pm }

I am so excited to hear people are coming and thinking about it. Lara said to sign up soon, they are anticipating it closing this year. I am signing up this week so that Ido not forget or chicken out. Christine I am not going to run the 1/2 seriously and do plan to walk if I have to so…

97 Christine { 10.19.09 at 8:40 pm }

Dot, will you add me to your group if there is still room for the 1/2 and then I’ll register this week?…I DO want to be a Disney Princess at least once in my life! (didn’t know that’s what it’s called…cute!) Dates work for me and I’m realizing I really need to have a goal in front of me to give me something to work toward. Plus having a warm destination in early March will be great to look forward to and i have some great memories there w/ my daughter, so i’m looking forward to it and w/ you guys!

98 Heather { 10.20.09 at 9:01 am }

Hey ladies! Diane, Lenore and I are going out for dinner on Friday night to Bocado a wine/tapas bar in Worcester….anyone else interested in a “girls night out…” Let me know by tomorrow so I can make the reservation…

http://www.bocadotapasbar.com/

99 Jessica { 10.20.09 at 10:19 am }

I just got a 40% coupon code in my e-mail for rooms at Disney which includes the weekend of the half marathon. I am in for the run/walk too! People can use my room for a place to stash stuff. Hope to see some of you at the Chi clinic tonight.

100 Diane { 10.20.09 at 10:37 am }

I just bit the bullet and registered for the princess half marathon! Dot, I’m definitely in now LOL! Jessica, that’s great that we’ll have a home base close.

101 melissa { 10.20.09 at 11:02 am }

Diane – 11/28 is good for me for the Chi running clinic. 12/5 may not work if I have to pickup my daughter from college but I won’t know until she let’s me in on her plans! 12/6 should be ok. See you (+whoever) tonite at REI.

102 Diane { 10.20.09 at 11:03 am }

FYI, flights are really cheap to Orlando for the marathon.

103 Annmarie { 10.20.09 at 5:25 pm }

Heather,

I drive Bocado everyday on my way to work. I’ve been dying to try it out. Would love to meet up. Will be coming from work so I won’t look to spiffy – but hey!

104 Diane { 10.20.09 at 9:13 pm }

Great AnnMarie, can’t wait to see you!

Just got back from a Chi Running talk (Doug, Mert, Melissa, Jessica went too). Definitely putting on a clinic for you guys. I have an email out to the club owner. If they don’t want to host it, we’ll find somewhere else. It’s all the stuff I’ve been telling you guys about all along, but they have a nice methodology of explaining it and teaching it. We have set aside 12/5 from 12-5 and 12/12 from 12-5 for the clinic. I know I was talking about the tri program kickoff for the 5th too, we’ll just meet from 11-12 and get that done with right before the clinic. Christine, sorry you can’t make the 5th, but I don’t want to wait too much longer to put on this clinic so we can still run outside (winter IS COMING). It will cost less than $200 for both days and it is limited to 15 people– so as soon as I have the details you should let me know if you want to attend before I open it up to the rest of the club. Stay tuned….

105 melissa { 10.21.09 at 11:45 am }

Heather – I would love to join you guys Friday nite – Bocado’s menu is amazing – they actually have plenty of gluten-free choices, yeah!! What time were you thinking of?

106 Heather { 10.21.09 at 12:27 pm }

Does 6:30 at Bocado work for everyone?

107 Diane { 10.21.09 at 12:37 pm }

works for me

108 Heather { 10.21.09 at 1:09 pm }

I just made a reservation for 5 (me, Diane, Lenore, Melissa, and Marie…) for 6:30pm on Friday.

If there are any more, let me know. I will pick up Diane and Lenore.

109 Annmarie { 10.21.09 at 9:00 pm }

See you at 6:30.

110 melissa { 10.22.09 at 7:48 am }

Sounds great.

111 Diane { 10.22.09 at 11:11 am }

Hi guys, we are about to post the swim clnic flyer. I’m going to cap it at 15 people here is who I have so far if you are not on the list and want to be, please let me know so you don’t get left out. The cost is $59 for 2010 Tri Program members, $79 for club members who won’t be doing the Tri Program next year, and $99 for non-members.

you got it Heather

114 Kate { 10.24.09 at 4:14 pm }

Hi All –
I need new clear swim goggles – and Sports Authority has switched over to winter sports. Does anyone have a suggestion for who will have the goggles in stock? Is there a good online source? Thanks! :)

115 Mert { 10.24.09 at 5:03 pm }

Kate,
I got a pair of swimming goggles at Dicks.

116 Annmarie { 10.24.09 at 6:07 pm }

Barbara, Judy & I are running the Slattery’s Turkey Trot course on Sat. Nov. 7th if anyone else would like to join us. I’m not quite sure of the time. Barbara has to work early so it won’t be until late morning. After we’ll either eat at my house or at Slattery’s.

117 Mert { 10.25.09 at 6:59 am }

Annmarie,
Count me in for 11/7

118 Annmarie { 10.25.09 at 7:33 pm }

Mert it will be great to see you. As of right now I’m leaning towards starting anywhere between 10a & 11a. Not sure yet. Barbara has to work that morning so I’m trying to work around her schedule.

119 Diane { 10.26.09 at 2:38 pm }

OK, after much ado, we have a date for the Chi Running clinic. Due to the basketball schedules in this town, and the expense of renting a field at other places like ForeKicks, we need to move the clinic to a Sunday. The Chi Running instructor was busy on Sunday the 6th already. So, we are going to start with one 6-hour clinic. The cost is $125 which will cover the custodian and instructor fees.

We got a custodian to work on Sunday Dec 13th from 12-6pm.

Our instructor, Michael, felt that this was a good option for us. He said he could do a refresher 1-2 hours in the winter to see how we are doing. I think this will work great! We can use one of our Wed or Thurs night classes in Jan or Feb to see how our practice is going. I will continue to reinforce the drills and practice until we do the refresher.

Please let me know if you can make the clinic.

120 Christine { 10.26.09 at 2:46 pm }

Yeah!! A date I can make, please count me in. I’m still bummed I’m away for the Trukey Trot and the kick-off…i hate to miss a good party.

121 Diane { 10.26.09 at 6:53 pm }

Oh, and the Chi Running Clinic will be held at Melican Middle School on Lincoln St, Northboro.

I need to reschedule the winter program kickoff meeting. I’d like to suggest a Thurs or Friday night since the weekends are starting to book up with holidays, runs, and clinics. Do any of these Fridays 11/13, or 11/20 or 12/4, 12/11 or Thurs 12/10 or 12/17 work for you guys?

122 Mary { 10.26.09 at 7:25 pm }

Winter kickoff: I could do any of these days.

123 Heather { 10.26.09 at 7:33 pm }

Any of those dates are good for me.

124 Gretchen Tregger { 10.26.09 at 8:22 pm }

Thursdays work better for me. I work every other Friday at Westboro!

125 Mert { 10.27.09 at 12:14 am }

Diane,
I’m available any of those days.

126 leslie { 10.27.09 at 8:48 am }

I’m available any day except for the 11/20 date.

127 Christine { 10.27.09 at 10:59 am }

I’m so happy…I can do any Thurs night or other dates you mention EXCEPT two. I’m away 11/20 and 12/4.

128 Kate { 10.27.09 at 11:08 am }

11/20, 12/4 and 12/11 work for me for the kickoff of the winter program. Can you describe the Chi-Running program a bit? Mid-December is a really busy time for me, and I am trying to figure out how to fit it in!

129 Diane { 10.27.09 at 11:31 am }

Kate, the Chi Running clinic will be breaking down a good running form so that you can practice it. It makes you lighter on your feet -thus easier to run- thus less injuries with the correct form. I do believe you would enjoy it and it would be well worth your time.

Here is the website: http://www.chirunning.com/shop/home.php

130 melissa { 10.27.09 at 12:28 pm }

Diane,
The Chi Running clinic date will work for me – is it also open to spouses? If so, Daniel would like to join us. Any of the dates for the kickoff are ok also.

131 Diane { 10.27.09 at 12:35 pm }

Great, yes, anyone can go. Not just limited to our group, although we will be filling most of it. He is limiting to 15 attendees.

132 Jessica { 10.27.09 at 1:09 pm }

Diane, count me in for the Chi running clinic.

I can also do almost anyday for the kickoff (would prefer to avoid 12/4),

I just got my confirmation e-mail for the half marathon (over $130, eek!) and my hotel (Beach Club), so one way or another I will be crossing that finish line!

133 Kate { 10.27.09 at 3:27 pm }

Ok – sign me up for Chi Running Clinic!

134 Diane { 10.27.09 at 3:35 pm }

you got it! We have 10 only 5 spots left….

135 melissa { 10.27.09 at 4:08 pm }

Great -count Daniel & me in.

136 Annmarie { 10.28.09 at 9:29 pm }

Diane,

Any of the days you have scheduled for the kickoff work for me. I’m planning to do all morning classes for the winter session.

137 Sarah { 11.01.09 at 1:53 pm }

OK, so I’m a little behind the times, but I just registered for the Turkey Trot. :) If people are still planning on running the course on Saturday I would love to join you if I can sneak it in before my son’s soccer game. Thanks!
Sarah

138 Barbara { 11.01.09 at 4:47 pm }

Hi Sarah,
I think Annmarie was planning to post but I’ll jump in. We are planning on running the turkey trot course this weekend, Saturday. I have a client at 8:00 am at the club in Westboro and plan to head over after that. We thought we’d meet at Annmarie’s for 10:30 am, carpool to drive the course, so we all know where we are going and then run the course. Does a 10:30 run work in your schedule? I may be able to get there a little earlier but I just wanted to give a safe time. Let us know, we’d love to have you join us.

139 Diane { 11.01.09 at 8:43 pm }

Sarah!?!?! Nice to hear from you! I’m so glad you are doing this race it’ll be great to see you. I can’t go to the practice run, but I’ll see everyone there on race day.

140 Annmarie { 11.01.09 at 10:06 pm }

Sarah,

I will send you my address via e-mail if you plan on joining us Saturday. If you don’t have my address you can get it from Diane or Barbara.

141 Sarah { 11.02.09 at 4:35 pm }

Thanks Barbara and Annmarie. I think 10:30 should be perfect.
Look forward to seeing you at the race, Diane.

142 Barbara { 11.05.09 at 5:04 pm }

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let those who are doing the training run for the Turkey Trot on Saturday that I am free earlier if and earlier time is better for everyone. Currently we will be meeting at Annmarie’s for 10:30, do a drive through so everyone knows the course and then run the course. After possibly having lunch at Slattery’s. Let me know if we want to keep it as planned or if earlier is better. I hear the weather should be nice this weekend, yeah. I love running in the fall. Talk to you soon.

143 Christine { 11.05.09 at 5:12 pm }

Everyone trotting, have a great time…trial and race…wish i could do it with you but will be out of town. I may look into the Jingle Bell 5K in Boston if it doesn’t conflict w/ any of Diane’s classes, if interested. I think everyone dresses in holiday colors and it’s supposed to be a fun run too.

Also, I’m officially registered to be a princess running (maybe walking some, but hopefully not). We’ll see by March!

144 Mert { 11.05.09 at 5:37 pm }

Hi Barbara,
I’m pretty flexible when it comes to the meeting time.

145 Barbara { 11.06.09 at 10:23 am }

Listening to how cool it is going to be tomorrow morning, 10:30 is probably a good time to go. It will give the temperature some time to increase :) I love running in the fall, but I hate to be cold. What does everyone else think?

146 Mert { 11.06.09 at 12:04 pm }

Barbara,
That sounds good with me, see you tomorrow.

147 Sarah { 11.06.09 at 1:23 pm }

10:30 works for me, too. See you then!

148 Barbara { 11.08.09 at 7:37 am }

Great practice run everyone! You all look so good and what perfect weather to run in! See you all in two weeks. =)

149 Annmarie { 11.08.09 at 10:50 am }

I plan on having pizza & salad at my house after the Turkey Trot. If you would like to join us please let me know so I can order enough pizza. If you want drinks other than water please bring your own. Thanks.

150 Diane { 11.08.09 at 5:42 pm }

Cary and I are in Annmarie, thanks!

151 Mert { 11.09.09 at 7:02 am }

Annmarie,
Tks for the invite, I shall see you on the 22nd.

152 Barbara { 11.09.09 at 9:56 am }

Annmarie,
You can count on Rich and I as well. He’s going to do the fitness walk with Lyn, so let her know she’ll have a walking partner. See everyone on the 22nd.

153 Heather { 11.10.09 at 11:05 am }

What time is the swim clinic on Saturday?

154 Diane { 11.10.09 at 11:35 am }

It is 6pm Heather. I’ll send a reminder Thurs.

155 Sarah { 11.11.09 at 2:07 pm }

Annmarie,

I’d love to join you all for pizza after the run. Thanks!

156 Diane { 11.13.09 at 9:46 pm }

Guys, just wanted to remind you about the swim clinic on Sat night at 6pm. I did send out a reminder on Thurs, but i just want to make sure it didn’t go into your “junk mail” because I sent it from my OncRehab.com email address. See you tomorrow!

157 Kate { 11.15.09 at 9:29 am }

Diane – I really enjoyed the swim clinic! It was great seeing everyone – I can’t wait to start the Master’s Swim! :)

158 Annmarie { 11.15.09 at 9:39 am }

Re: Turkey Trot
The race starts at 1:00PM, so I was planning on having the pizza arrive around 2:30. For those of you who doen’t have my address, I’ll send to you via e-mail. Hope we have decent weather. Look forward to seeing all of you.

159 Diane { 11.15.09 at 3:03 pm }

Glad you enjoyed it Kate! I did too. I went through and got everyone’s videos ready with comments, but want to go over them all with Laura and Brian tomorrow. Look for your video in email Mon or Tues. Check your spam/junk folder if you haven’t seen it by Tues.

160 Diane { 11.16.09 at 9:07 pm }

OK, the videos did not work emailing them. All emails are being returned to me. So, I will resend them all with TransferBigFiles. So check your junk email in case the videos go there.

161 Diane { 11.17.09 at 8:26 pm }

I’m moving this blog to the side bar and will start a new one for the Tri Team :-)
