As you may know, I am an advisor to a young company in Boston called Segterra. They have developed a web based service – InsideTracker (www.insidetracker.com), which gives health conscious individuals information about their biochemistry so they can optimize their overall health and performance. InsideTracker is unique because it is the only service that incorporates a simple blood test to measure the vitamins and nutrients in your blood, with scientifically supported recommendations that make it easy for anyone to take the right actions to optimize their health and athletic performance. InsideTracker is ideal for people who are looking for more tangible information to drive their nutrition decisions as well as triathletes, marathoners and other endurance athletes striving to improve their overall performance.

As an advisor, Segterra has given me an Invitation Code to share a special discount with my friends. Please check out their website to learn more about InsideTracker and if you try the service, use the code below to save $50. Segterra is interested in growing by word of mouth, so if you know others that would value this service, please feel free to share the Invitation Code with them as well. I am having Maryann work on the IT band for me – she is going to give Diane some suggested exercises for me, and gave me some stretches to do at home which I have been doing. The rotator cuff is just a tweak from the hot tub cover :-) So I think that will be resolved quickly. But It is amazing how out of whack my body is according to Maryann!! I am signed up for a series of painful sessions – I mean massages – with her over the next 3 weeks so hopefully that will help!

3 Diane Stokes { 10.26.11 at 3:21 pm }

Tracey, I had planned on going, but my son is having his second “last supper” (surgery is tomorrow) so I need to be with him. HOWEVER, sore rotator cuff means NO LIFTING. Seriously, I would not be going to body pump with a sore rotator cuff. You will make it worse. Maryanne did mention the IT Band….when are you going to start the training?

4 Tracey { 10.26.11 at 3:39 pm }

Pooh. ok. I’ll just go and do elliptical and some core work. I HATE this!! I have my next session on Monday.

Anyone know of any fun races for late Winter/early Spring?….I’m feeling lost without any goal on my calendar…maybe a half-marathon?? Thanks!

6 Diane Stokes { 11.28.11 at 4:47 pm }

Hi Sarah,

We are thinking about doing the Hyannis half in Feb.

All,
Was considering Cranberry olympic next summer and came across this (see below). Basically, it looks like you can get free race insurance if you sign up by 12/31/11. Unfortunately I have an out of town wedding on the 25th and don’t see how I can make it back for the 26th. Don’t suppose anyone has another Olympic distance race suggestion?
“New for 2012, Sun Multisport Events (SME) is offering athletes the Registration Fee Reimbursement service in partnership with 365Competitors. This is an insurance service that allows a participant to receive a 100% refund of the registration fee if he/she is unable to participate in the event due to sickness or injury (subject to terms and conditions). SME will cover the cost of the Registration Fee Reimbursement program for all athletes that register by 12/31/11.” More info is on the event website.

10 Diane Stokes { 12.14.11 at 7:07 pm }

Thanks Michelle! There is Old Colony in July that you can do. It is an Olympic Distance too. Too bad about Cranberry!!

11 Tracey Lydon { 12.15.11 at 10:45 am }

Michelle – I will probably do Old Colony in July – it’s a great, small race and they have an aquabike option!

12 Lian { 12.18.11 at 6:52 pm }

If you are planning on doing the Patriot half ironman, you should sign up by Dec. 31st. It goes up $20 after that. I am doing it so I am hoping you all want to just say yes!!

13 Marty Jinkins { 12.20.11 at 12:33 pm }

Pretty impressive post, thumbs up for the great work.

17 Michelle { 01.03.12 at 11:01 am }

Happy New Year everyone! Just signed up for Old Colony (olympic) – July 8th. Decided to just take the leap and go for it. Let me know if anyone else signs up for this one. Now just need to get in training mode earlier than last summer since I only started training after July 4th weekend!

18 Tracey { 01.03.12 at 1:56 pm }

Happy New Year and happy 1st day of the winter training program for those of you who hit the pool today!

Michelle – I’ll do Old Colony with you – aqua bike of course!! You’ll do great although we will need to get you out there a few times before July 4th!! LOL!

19 Sarah P { 01.04.12 at 4:37 pm }

Tracey and Michelle- I’ll join you for Old Colony! I’m also going to do Holliston on June 10th. It’s a sprint so it would be a great warm up before the Olympic. Anyone else??

20 Kate { 01.05.12 at 9:44 am }

Diane – do you know the date of the 2012 Multisport Expo?

21 Barbara { 01.05.12 at 1:48 pm }

Kate, I think the Expo is March 31st.

22 Diane Stokes { 01.05.12 at 8:28 pm }

Yes Barb, that is correct. I’ll be working the team challenge again if anyone wants to create a FitBricks team!

23 Diane { 01.08.12 at 6:53 pm }

Time for Multisport Expo Team Challenge recruiting. Do 4 of you want to put together a team? Here are the details. Let me know. http://www.active.com/running/cambridge-ma/multisport-world-boston-team-challenge-2012

24 Diane { 01.11.12 at 10:25 am }

Just to let you all know… only 7 spots remain in the Aquabike category for the Patriot Half. This will be sold out… like… soon. Sign up if you are thinking about doing it!

25 Jessica { 01.16.12 at 1:25 pm }

Hey all, I’m admitting defeat and getting rid of my rollers. Figured I’d see if anyone was interested in them before throwing them up on craigslist. They are the bike nashbar parabolic rollers (the red ones) used like 2 times. Yeah, I was an idiot! I’m selling them for $80 with the check payable to Dana-Farber. Yep, you get a tax write off for them. Let me know if anyone is interested.

26 Lian { 01.18.12 at 8:02 am }

Hello everyone,
I am putting together a Fitbricks team for the Expo. We did this last year and it was a ton of fun! The expo is the best part with plenty of shopping for Tri equipment and you get to check out all the latest gear.
In order to put together a team I need volunteers to do the following:
4-people to swim 300 (indoor)
4-people to run 3m (outdoor)
4-people to bike a 10K (indoor)
Please let me know if you are interested asap so I can sign us up. Feel free to ask your friends or family also if they would like to be a part of our team! Thanks.
Details Below:

27 Diane { 01.18.12 at 4:23 pm }
28 Markryan { 01.19.12 at 1:01 pm }

Hi Lian! Can I join you guys for one of the swim legs at the expo? I’ve never done a relay in a pool before & I’ve been working hard on my stroke this winter. Can’t wait!

29 Christine { 01.19.12 at 3:33 pm }

just saying hi so i can get the postings by email again!

30 Bill { 01.19.12 at 5:50 pm }

Hey Lian I will run if you need someone to run

31 Jessica { 01.19.12 at 6:08 pm }

Lian, I haven’t swam in about 3 months, run super slow, and am ok at biking, but can fill a spot if you’d like. If not, I make a super awesome cheerleader! Can’t wait to see a bunch of you at Hyannis.

32 Lian { 01.20.12 at 9:15 am }

Thanks for all that are willing to do the multisport! I still need about 5 more people. Also if you have said yes just let me know your event preference and I will do my best to accomadate.

33 Tracey Lydon { 01.20.12 at 9:37 am }

Lian, I’ll do the bike at multi-sport if you still have a spot open.

34 Barbara { 01.20.12 at 3:19 pm }

Hey Everyone,
We have two new tri members who are looking for road bikes. If anyone has an extra bike, knows someone with a bike or has one they are looking to sell please let us know. Saundra is ~5’2″ tall and Jim J is ~6’0″ tall. Thanks!

35 Jessica { 01.20.12 at 4:56 pm }

I am not sure if Saundra will fit into my “throwaway” road bike, but if she does, I am willing to for sure unload it.

36 Rich { 01.22.12 at 2:27 pm }

Just leaving a comment to get the e-mails again too. I told Lian I am in for the swim at the Expo!

37 Rich { 01.22.12 at 2:32 pm }

Oh, yeah,
I signed up for the Patriot half Aqua-Bike too! Going to be there with Barb anyway, might as well have some fun too!

38 Leslie { 01.23.12 at 12:18 pm }

I have a road bike that might fit Saundra.

39 Diane Stokes { 01.23.12 at 12:22 pm }

Great, thanks Leslie! We’ll tell her to contact you.

40 Diane { 01.23.12 at 3:48 pm }

Anyone want a number to run Boston this year and can’t find one? 15-40 has two numbers. If anyone is interested and wants to learn more about the commitment or has questions, please reach out to Tricia Laursen. 508-713-0654 or tricia.laursen@15-40.org. I’m just the messenger, I don’t have details.

41 Judy { 01.28.12 at 7:41 am }

Hi! Everyone! Not sure u will remember me from last years Tri winter program or not……but I am planning on participating in Diane’s spring program this year. Last yr I wanted to start a getting heathy dinner club with the group. I have spoken about this to Kate and Diane. Who would be interested in joining in. I would love to hear from you guys. You can also contact me at northstar13@comcast.net. I’ll be waiting to hear what you think! Miss you guys! Oh, I would also like to join in on any outside activities as well….I like snow shoeing etc….. Could use some socialization and fun! Thanks ~Judy

42 Barbara { 01.28.12 at 8:05 am }

Hi Judy,
Nice to hear from you and look forward to seeing you this Spring/Summer. The healthy eating club sounds great it just is a matter of time. Let me know when and I’ll see what I can do. But really glad you’ll be back to train with us (often that is the socialization I get :) ). Talk to you soon, Barbara

43 Annmarie { 01.29.12 at 8:37 am }

Hi,
Just catching up on the happenings with FitBrick members. I feel so out of touch not being in the winter program. Keeping busy with biking and swimming. Still no running – my left knee is giving me trouble. Since I’m not sure if I can run, I start looking for aquabike events. The Patriot half is full. What other aquabike events are there? Thanks. Annmarie

44 Tracey { 01.29.12 at 10:54 am }

Hi Annmarie – old colony has an Olympic aquabike. Pumpkinman has a half iron aqua bike. I’ve done both. Supposedly cranberry is having an aquabike division this year too. I think Mary said that Firm events always offer aquabikes at Oly and up distances but it’s not always advertised until you are checking out during registration. I am planning on Old Colony and Cranberry aquabikes this year. Happy to have company!!

45 Annmarie { 01.29.12 at 1:27 pm }

Thanks Tracey. I will look into both.
It was my understanding that if we were signed up for the Cranberry last year, we’d get a discount this year. What does anyone know about that? Would I be able to use it towards an aquabike race instead of the Olympic race distance?

46 Diane { 01.30.12 at 11:20 am }

Annmarie, I responded via email. Couldn’t post the confidential code here. You all should have received an email from me regarding this discussion on the Cranberry credit from last year.

47 Kate { 01.30.12 at 3:35 pm }

Hi Annmarie! I miss our locker room chats. I love the idea of the Cranberry Aquabike!

48 Annmarie { 01.30.12 at 10:03 pm }

I registered for the Patriot half aquabike. Gulp! Nervous about the swim, but excited too. I also registered for Old Colony. Haven’t signed up for Cranberry yet. I’ve got lots of swimming to do…

Kate miss you too. I need a good Kate story.

49 Diane { 02.01.12 at 4:55 pm }

Benefits of pool running! Great article. Thanks for sharing Rebecca. http://www.vancourier.com/news/Pool+running+paves+fitness/6083399/story.html

50 Kate { 02.01.12 at 9:02 pm }

Thanks Barbara and Diane for leading a great spin class tonight!

51 Barbara { 02.02.12 at 7:59 am }

You’re welcome Kate! Have to love it when Diane comes around and turns up your tension!!!

52 Markryan { 02.02.12 at 8:45 am }

I think that’s Diane’s new “game” now….turning up the tension and smiling widely as we sweat profusely haha

53 Barbara { 02.02.12 at 9:23 am }

Markryan you learn quickly! And she has a number of “tricks” up her sleeves!! It is so much fun!!! :)

54 Michelle { 02.04.12 at 2:34 pm }

A friend is looking to purchase a used road bike. If anyone has one they’d like to sell, please let me know. (She’s 5′ 6″). Thanks!

55 Lian { 02.10.12 at 12:47 pm }

I have someoen with a confilice so I need one more person for the Multisport challenge. Someone willing to bike or run? It is lots of fun and very short and sweet :) the bike is a time trial 10k and the run is a 5k. Any takers?

56 Tracey { 02.13.12 at 10:46 am }

Hey all – I’m the one with the conflict, again……but am willing to pay the fee if you can take my bike spot. I’ll be there later in the day, just can’t make the 10:45 time slot as my daughter’s chorus group is competing is a state competition and is competing at 10:40!

57 Diane { 02.15.12 at 9:45 am }

Wow, just got my blood test back from Inside Tracker and my vitamin D, calcium and Ferritin is dropped to below normal from the June test. Good to know! Need more dairy and iron. B12 and Folic Acid still high, but not as high as last time. Weird on my cholesterol too which was higher than ever, need the HDL/LDL- Triglyceride breakdown. So interesting! You guys should do this. http://www.InsideTracker.com

58 Diane Stokes { 02.19.12 at 9:09 am }

Just registered for the 100 mile Grand Fondo 2012 Diabetes ride. Please support my efforts. ANY amount would be greatly appreciated! http://main.diabetes.org/goto/dianestokes

59 Diane Stokes { 02.22.12 at 9:15 am }
60 Kate { 02.27.12 at 6:20 am }

Great article – short and sweet and I love the YOGA mention!

61 Lisa C { 02.27.12 at 3:46 pm }

Hi Gang – who is doing the MS Bike Challenge 6-23/24? I am signing up and wasn’t sure if there is a FitBricks team?

62 Jess { 02.27.12 at 4:42 pm }

Lisa, I am doing it and was going to be on the team that Kate and her stepdaughter were organizing. Not sure what their team name will be.

63 Diane { 02.27.12 at 4:47 pm }

Me too. Kate, what is the team name?

64 Tracey { 02.29.12 at 10:15 am }

I’m still looking for someone to take my spot at the Multisport expo in the bike time trial. PLEASE? I would feel awful missing my daughter’s chorus competition but also can’t let my Fitbricks teammates down. If you’re already running or swimming you could do your own personal brick…….I’ll pay the fee…….

65 Barbara { 03.04.12 at 8:14 am }

Thank you Kathryn for the delicious pasta last night. And to your “helpers” – Jim K and Kristen making those perfect noodles! Thanks also to Diane and Cary for hosting. It is so nice to see everyone dressed like “normal” people vs swim caps, goggles, tri shorts, and all sweaty! You guys all clean up well!!
I do think we need to plan another outing, maybe dancing since I’ve been hearing about Jim K’s abilities! Would love to see the coffee grinder in action!

66 Kate { 03.09.12 at 4:29 pm }

For the Bike MS Cape Cod Getaway – I think we should set up a FitBricks team. The date is June 23-24. There are a couple of routes – and a 1 day option too. I’ll get the Team set up this weekend and post when we are good to go. Check out the ride on Facebook. http://bikemam.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/MAMBikeEvents?fr_id=17563&pg=entry

67 Diane { 03.09.12 at 5:53 pm }

Agree Kate!

68 Kate { 03.11.12 at 9:28 am }

The FitBricks Team is set up for the MS Bike 2 Day Cape Cod Getaway! http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?fr_id=17563&pg=entry. There are choices of routes, accommodations and transportation home. Come join us!

69 Barbara { 03.16.12 at 2:48 pm }

Hey Everyone,
As many of you know Diane is competing in Ironman Puerto Rico this weekend – Go Diane! In the past we’ve all pledged our weekend workouts to those competing! That way if the race or competition start to get Diane (Ha!) down she can think of all of us working out at home while pledging our mileage to her! I have no fear she’ll have a great race! Diane we are all pulling for you!

We need 1.2 miles swam (anyone swimming this weekend), 56 miles biking, 13.1 mile running. We definitely can meet these numbers and should totally crush them (you are all following your plan – right?)

I’ll pledge my 15-20 mile bike. Anyone else game? Post here so Diane can see and feel our team spirit pulling for her! Go Diane!

70 Jess { 03.16.12 at 3:01 pm }

I’ve got a 20 mile run with her name on it!

71 Tracey { 03.16.12 at 3:04 pm }

I’ve got at least 15 on the bike for her

72 Barbara { 03.16.12 at 3:40 pm }

Thanks Jess and Tracey – from Diane below -
I can’t post in FitBricks but thank everyone. I’m really going to need it on this one. Between the 80s temp, humidity, wicked wind, heavy waves, no wetsuit (even if not medal contention) half mile+ T1 transition it will certainly be challenging!

73 melissa { 03.17.12 at 8:38 am }

Easy does it, Diane! Be safe. Will be thinking of you.
Swim – 1.5 miles
Pool Run – 3 miles
Bike – 15 miles

74 Lian { 03.30.12 at 9:38 am }

Hey all,
Do you mind if we move the Synch. Swimming contest to Thursday instead of Tuesday? If so, 6:30AM group please arrive 10mins early to kick some 5:30AM butt!!

75 Kate { 03.30.12 at 3:28 pm }

Lian – what time are our team members competing tomorrow at the Multi-Sport Expo?

76 Lian { 03.30.12 at 4:22 pm }

If you would like to come cheer on Team Fitbricks at the Multisport challenge tomorrow at MIT here are the times.
9am-3.1mile run -Rachel,Jim K., Barb, and Cary
10:45-6.2mile bike-Lian, Leslie, Jess, and Bill

77 Barbara { 03.31.12 at 2:09 pm }

Great showing today by the Fitbricks Team. Thanks to team captain Lian for setting this all up!!! Sorry the bike and swim was at the same time – the swimmers were awesome, how’d the bike go? I’m sure you guys rocked it! Nice job everyone!!

78 Lian { 03.31.12 at 7:37 pm }

Good job today! There were some crazy fast athletes there but none of the teams are as much fun as we are:) Proud of you all and can’t wait to kick some butt again next year…..oh and shop too.

79 Rich { 04.01.12 at 9:24 am }

Thanks for setting it up Lian! I had fun. Oh and thanks to the voluteers who kept it rolling….Diane, Barb…and many others.

80 Barbara { 04.01.12 at 9:36 am }

Good luck to our Fitbrick Teammates racing today- Lian and Rachel 10 K, Cohasset
Julie and Kathryn 10 miler, DC
You guys will rock it!

81 Lian { 04.02.12 at 11:10 am }

6:30AM swim group, please come Thursday at 6AM. We will practice the pool snake and then do the synchronized swim competition.

82 kathryn { 04.03.12 at 5:47 pm }

Lesson 101: If you feel good or half way good about a race do yourself a favor and don’t look at the race photos…..just received the email with the Cherry Blossom race photos. Wonders never cease as to how professional photographers can get soooo many bad pictures….

83 Tracey { 04.06.12 at 10:56 am }

Who is doing Cranberry this year? I assume a big group given the cancellation last year…….

I’m trying to decide whether to do it as a relay (but need someone to run with me), or do it and walk / skip the run.

84 Lian { 04.06.12 at 7:11 pm }

Hey Tracey, Is it the olympic? Let me know I could probably run for you.

85 Tracey { 04.09.12 at 7:53 am }

Hi Lian – Yes, I plan to do the Olympic on Sunday, 8/26. Let me know and I can register us. I’ll probably just need your personal info (address, birthdate, USAT #). You can email me the specifics to traceylydon@verizon.net. Thanks!! (It’s $105 ).

86 Diane Stokes { 04.09.12 at 6:13 pm }

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I’ve been so quite on FitBricks, life has been beyond busy and I’m doing my best to keep all of the balls in the air! If you need me, please email me. But, I could not let this next event go by without addressing it. Many of you know that Jessica G. will be running the Boston Marathon for the first time as part of the Dana Farber group. In support of her run, we have to cover 26.2 miles that day running. This will give her support while she is out there hitting the pavement (believe me, it works!). Who’s in!? I’m planning on riding over to the marathon from my house about 7:30am so that I can see her start. I’ll then come home and run the delta of what we need to make it 26.2. Anyone is welcome to join me for either or both of these activies. Email me with what your planning. I’ll also send an email. Go Jess!!!!!

87 Julie { 04.09.12 at 6:49 pm }

I am planning to run to the start (and back )from my house in hopkinton, so you can count me in for 5 miles . Hopefully, I’ll see some of you there .

88 Tracey { 04.10.12 at 8:43 am }

I will plan to walk that morning…..if that counts you can plan on 2 miles for me.

89 Kate { 04.11.12 at 9:14 am }

I might be working on Monday, but I’ll run 3 early! Go Jess GO! I am so excited for you! And Tracey – I haven’t signed up yet, but I’m planning on the Olympic Cranberry too.

90 Barbara { 04.11.12 at 2:24 pm }

Go Jess!! You are going to rock it! I have a rest day scheduled on Monday morning but can pledge my Sunday Tempo run (4 miles) to you! You really are going to do great! Remember get a good night sleep Friday and Saturday night because you probably won’t be sleeping on Sunday night! Also, fuel and hydrate this week!
Tracey, Rich and I are signed up for Cranberry Olympic, so we’ll see you there!!

91 Barbara { 05.05.12 at 6:47 pm }

Good luck to all the Fitbrick Teammates racing tomorrow! You are all going to do great!! Remember have fun!

92 Diane { 05.05.12 at 7:40 pm }

Good luck Racers tomorrow!!!
