I’ll start with a question for Eric

Eric, why do my shins hurt all of a sudden when I haven’t changed anything? The only thing I can think of is that I had to run two days in a row last week. But, they were short runs. One was a hill repeat workout, the other a 4 mile run. It wasn’t until I did another hill workout on the treadmill last Sat (because of the DREADFUL weather) that they really started to hurt. Today’s run (6 miles outside) just felt tight, not the searing pain. I hope to get in a brick tomorrow which will include a short 3mile run after a 15 mile bike ride. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Jason, before you say anything…I KNOW this is my rest week, but it’s supposed to rain all weekend again and I have to get in a brick. So, if I get one in on Wed this week, I won’t do one on Saturday, and I’m planning on taking Thursday off and teach my class off the bike.

Diane,

Shin pain is one of the more perplexing common complaints in runners. I’ve seen shin pain from tightness in the calf, ill fitting shoes, radical changes in training (terrain, pace etc.), referred pain from the back masquerading as “shin splints”.

And sometimes the athletes head says yes and the body says I don’t think so….
