Thanks for putting together such a well organized plan for us!
You are welcome. How was the swim this morning?
Very good, Brian is the best. It was a workout for sure.
Excellent! That’s what I like to hear. You’ll be all set for the Vineman swim!
Diane, the plan is really comprehensive!!! I’m really looking forward to your classes!
I’m looking forward to the classes too! Unfortunately, it looks like Wed might be weathered out! We’ll have to play it by ear.
Did anyone hear about a government subsidy of $20.00 per month if you ride your bike to work?! I’m certainly going to sign up my business, the business has to sign up. I ride to work all the time (my office is .5 from my house) Just thought you guys might be interested.
I’m sure it will be taxed to death like everything else and you’ll end up with $1.30 in your pocket……sorry, just venting.
LOL. I have not heard of it, do you have the website Marie?
Diane, thanks for the great planning. I too appreciate the coaches efforts on our behalf. Be careful riding you bike to work in high traffic areas. Big trucks have a hard time seeing bikers.
I have to say I am feeling quite pleased with my trainer. It took some effort figuring out how to set it up. But, how sweet it is.
That’s great Lenore! Watch a good movie and you’re all set
Darn, the ice was so bad this morning I couldn’t make it to swim class. Hope things are cleared up by tonights class……btw, Diane I plan to go to Franks to check into getting a trainer. Which one do you recommend? thanks.
I went to swim this morning @ 610. The roads were MUCH better when I was on my way back. I am off to work in a little while, hope everyone makes it tonight, Looking forward!
Leslie, I have a Cyclops fluid trainer and I love it, well, love it as much as loving a trainer can be. Lenore, sorry about not emailing you sooner about the sprints. I’m signed up for Sudbury, Lions and Webster. I’m also doing Half Rev and Old Colony. Hopefully I will see you all tonight. Diane, are we bringing trainers or are we using spin bikes?
I didn’t make it to swim class either, I got home very late, my grandmother went into the hospital yesterday with pneumonia. I am heading to the hospital this afternoon, so I won’t be at the workout tonight. My plan is to swim tomorrow morning. I made myself a 1300 yd workout. Have a good workout tonight!!!
We are using spin bikes tonight. We’re going to do the heart rate testing. I hope to see you all.
Don has a new type of trainer in that he thought would be good for us. I forget the name of it. But last year I bought the one he suggested and it was great, and I also have a Cyclops. So, I trust Don’s opinion on the trainers. Be sure to tell him you are part of the group so you get a good deal.
Also, Jim, I hope you did not sign up for Webster- is is not on your IM plan !!! I will email you the spreadsheet again as a reminder
Nor is Old Colony Jim!!!!! You have to stick to the plan. You’ll be doing a lot of long bikes and runs at that time. No extraneous races aloud. Although, you MAY watch Cary race
Heather, so sorry about your Grandmother. I wish her well.
If you want to send me your swim workout, I can review it. Or, Brian can give you one. I’m sure he has a plan for you
Take care, I hope to see you on Friday. If not, let me know and we can tweak your plan.
Hi,
Are we meeting in the spin room for tonight’s workout? I am going to guess yes, but just wanted to be sure.
Great swim workout today, but my arms are really tired!
Thanks,
Heather
Hi Heather. Yes, we’ll be in the spin room. It’s too cold to bother with the trainers. But have no fear, it’ll be a good workout!
Glad the swim was good. Your arms will be better as you get used to the volume and intensity. You’ve made such amazing progress! Keep up the great work.
Hi,
Sorry I missed the group workout this morning. I was very tired and needed a few extra hours in bed. My plan is run hills and core work tonight after work.
Have a great weekend!
Heather
No problem, Heather. Sleep is as important! I hope you had a good workout tonight. Let me know if you have any questions.
OK!!!! The First Ride of the Season….otherwise titled “Every Ride MUST be an Adventure, Part II”. So, I kind of hit the wall on the trainer last week, and so I brought my bike in and had it all tuned up, nice and spiffy. I send Dan out to the Maintenance Clinic, and Go out for the first hour of my ride alone. I pick up Dan, and We head up to 140, and down towards the resevoir….We get into Boylston and Dan says “I have a flat”. So, we stop. Well of course, it’s on the back tire, no sweat! Tire off, etc. Guess who was riding without a new tube? Dan, hot off the press from the clinic! So I gave him mine, we fill it with carbon, and hit the road…NOT! now the front tire is flat. We do try to refill it, but it was completely shot. So, we have to call our son Bryan (who lives with his mom in Douglas) and Madison to pick up Dan. We give explicit instructions….Go all the way to the end of church street and make a left. By this time, I really need to finish my ride so I leave him, secure in the knowledge that the kids are on their way. I’m riding on Randall Road in Bolton when the phone rings, it’s the kids, they’re lost, they’re on 290, etc., etc., etc. Finally, they do hook up with Dan who I did ditch on Route 70, and I see them in the van when I get into the center of Berlin (a good bit of time later). And a good time was had by all. At least we didn’t encounter any wild life.
And so it begins! See guys, EVERY ride we have is an adventure of some sort. Sometimes it’s wild turkeys we run into, sometimes we can’t find a loop and keep hitting dead ends, sometimes we don’t drink enough and end up in the hospital, but we are always having fun and LEARNING WHAT NOT TO DO
Ride on folks and keep posting the learning messages LOL!!!
I too had an adventure yesterday…but in the woods. Joe and I went for our first mountain bike ride, promising each other we’d take it easy the first ride out. Good thing I stopped on our way and got extra snacks for our ride. We got lost (only second time to the place) and our ride turned into a 3 hour jaunt with the sun setting and me taking inventory of the food and water we still had left and hoping my lighter in my pack still worked in case we needed to start a fire. Luckily, I have a keen sense of direction and we worked our way out…by that time we were starving and oh so sore. But, it was an awesome ride and we both rode well considering that was our first “real” ride since last fall. Let the adventures begin!
oh gosh Gretchen! I guess that’s why I can never go with someone that doesn’t know the way. I get lost ANYWHERE! i’d still be in there. Glad you were safe.
SO, AND THANK CHRIST I DID THIS ON REST DAY…..I tried the new VitaminWater 10. Now, I confess to drinking the regular vitamin water, during the warm weather if I’m going to or have done a long ride/run/brick/swim, etc. It’s kind of a variation from Gatorade, and it has some extra B12, which I need, and some other vitamins and minerals, nothing crazy. But this Vitaminwater 10 is sweetend with Erythitol, an alcohol sweetener used in among other things, suger free chocolate and GULP!!!! Laxitives. I’m very sensitive to this ingredient, as are many other people, it makes you gassy…. Just a warning here, if you know that you are sensitive to this “natural sweetener” beware…..
So glad you did this on your day off too! I have the same issue with Propel. This just proves what “they” say. There are lots of different types of sugar alcohols and they work differently for each person. Moral of the story-NEVER try anything new on race day
Yes, sugar alcohols can cause gassyness, diarrhea. Yeah, just what we want from our hyrdration source. Sugar alcohols don’t digest in the stomach, they ferment in the intestine. This way they don’t effect blood sugar rates for diabetics, so they are in a lot of stuff – check your sugar free gum for instance! An ingredient that ends with -ol is a sugar alcohol. Often it is a combination of eating several different foods with sugar alcohols that bother people or you have a sensitivity to one, as it sounds Marie has. Not fun at all.
What was the swim workout today? I got paged last night and wanted a few extra hours sleep this morning. My plan is to swim tomorrow.
Thanks!
Here you go Heather.
200/200/200 warm up

Just want to make sure on the “meet up” location for the hills ride tonight. Is it the Synopses parking lot off Simarano Drive?
you got it! See you tonight
Hi,
Looks like I am going to be getting stuck at work, probably won’t make the hill ride.
See you on Friday AM.
