First Brick of the Season

Due to the impending rain this weekend (surprise, surprise, surprise), I decided to do my first brick 0f 2008 this morning at 6am. Despite the fact that it was 28 degrees out and my feet were numb when I got off of the bike (after only 14 or so miles), I ended up having a pretty good 3 mile run. I really didn’t feel like I was going that fast because I couldn’t feel the lower half of my legs and feet (LOL), but my watch said I did the 3miles in 26min so, I’m pretty happy with that.  I even checked map my run for the millionth time on my route just to make sure it is really 3miles because I REALLY didn’t feel like I was running that fast.  Too funny!

My back feels a tad sore, but more muscular than having to do with my spondylothesis. But, luckily, I am scheduled to see Dr. Jim today and he can look at it.

Always good to get this first one out of the way.

Hey, it was warmer than 28 degrees when we got OFF the bike ;-) But my feet were numb when finished that. They hurt in the shower, so I have no idea how you could run 3 miles on numb toes.

I have no idea either, it was funny. Reminded me of when I did Mooseman Olympic in the pouring freezing rain. That was a 6mile run with numb feet and lower legs!

I did my fourth or so brick this morning… much warmer than yesterday. But I didn’t go quite as far… or as fast as Diane :-( but hey, at 8 miles and 2-3/4 miles it is longer than I need to do next month at the Sudbury Sprint, so that feels good!

Awesome job Doug! I’m glad you felt so good. How was your HR? You’re 3 bricks ahead of me :-)

Nice job, Diane! All your “firsts” of the spring are going well. It’s a testament to all your hard work this winter!

Thanks Jason. I thought you’d be mad that I did it because it wasn’t in the plan :-) BUT, as I said I will take Saturday off since its supposed to rain and I really needed to get a brick in this week.

I’ve been keeping my HR below 170, which for me is 85% max. I’m trying to keep it to 160 most of the time, but there is something about starting off on a brick where it just seems hard for me to go easy. Maybe it is the difference between how I usually feel when I start running. It takes me a bit to warm up, but with a brick, I’m already warm, so I just go. My HR was high, but my pace was high as well. Next time, I’m going to try and go out at a specific PACE and see if I can manage to keep things lower.

Actually for you, you kind of have that backwards. You can’t set the pace and see what happens. Until we know what your issue is….please :-) Go by HR. 160-165 is fine for you try not to go over that.
