Spin for Hope

If you don’t know, I’m doing the 3 hour spin for hope on Sunday March 2nd at the Westboro Tennis and Swim Club, to raise money for cancer research.  Come join me for all 3 hours, or, you can form a team.  It should be a lot of fun and very rewarding.   I think I’ll practice some race nutrition too on this ride.  Jason, I was going to ask you what you wanted me to try first for this 3 hour adventure.

If you don’t want to ride, but want to sponsor me, feel free to visit the website for this event at  http://community.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=3740&pg=entry and enter my name.

If you don’t want to donate, no problem, just wish us all a great workout!

Diane, I’m so happy that you have choosen to raise money for charity. I was wondering though why your goal was not higher. On behalf of Joyfulhope.org, we made a contribution in your behalf in the hope that others that see this blog with do the same and in the same amount ($100). Cancer sucks! I took my dad’s life and the society has made a lot of advances to conquer this ailment. Our dollars are needed. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to bless other’s lives.

Thanks so much Mike! I raise money for lots of organizations, so I didn’t want to over commit, but I’m thrilled that I’ve surpassed the goal.

I still have one coming your way………….

Diane,

The plan we talked about on the phone yesterday should work really well for you. In fact, I anticipate that you will feel better energy levels than you have in past rides b/c you have no previously supplied yourself with much nutrients in the early portion of long rides. I know in many cases you felt “fine”, but I think you’ll feel stronger with adequte nutrition.

One of the key ‘s to successful race nutrition is to think of it as a process of PREVENTING DEPLETION of nutrients, a process of replacing already lost nutrients. As soon as you start exercising, you are burning some carbohydrates for fuel. And as soon as you start exercising, you are losing water, sodium, and other electrolytes through your sweat. Your job is to keep these levels on an even keep while you exercise longer and longer so that your body can maintain optimal function.

I look forward to hearing how the ride goes for you. I hope it’s a good workout for you and a good event for your fundraising efforts.

Talk more soon,
Jason
